Chris Vine

The illustrator: Chris Vine studied at the Regional College of Art Bradford and is work is influenced by the work of Rene Magritte, Saul Steinberg, Roland Topor and the films of Luis Bunuel. After lecturing in art became a free-lance artist illustrator in 1983. Much of his work revolves around humour and visual language. He uses visual figures-of-speech, mixed metaphors, visual contradictions and clashing cliches to describe the real and imagined. Chris has exhibited his work in various galleries and has illustrated for magazines, advertising and publishing including a children's book called The Girl Who Swallowed the Wind" by Carol Rutter. Chris has also undertaken a major painting commission for Liverpool 2008 European Capital of Culture. Chris works in acrylic and watercolour.
