The illustrator: Jem's work is characterised by her bold and limited use of colour. Often inspired by urban environments and cityscapes Jem has recently located to London after a stint in New York to indulge this interest further. Figures feature frequently in Jem's work as she strives to communicate ideas or tell stories through her painterly yet graphic style. Her work has brought to life articles in numerous publications often with a business, travel or political slant. Her work has also been used in a design context, both online and in print. The imagery is primarily digital and created in Photoshop, using a combination of elements drawn with a pen and tablet and scanned in textures or hand drawn type.
